On November 7th, 2007, the newest feature in skyline of Atlantic City will be a twin-tower casino that will appear to spectators as if it were formed by ocean waves. Revel Entertainment Group revealed their designs on Wednesday for their $2 billion casino that will be constructed next to the Showboat Hotel. The company said that the project had been revealed earlier than planned.
Kevin DeSanctis, Revel’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said that the casino will be named Revel and would open for business by 2010. That gives the casino plenty of time on another casino being planned by Pinnacle Entertainment to replace the Old Sands Casino Hotel, which will open by 2011 or 2012. The casino hotel is designed to have two thin towers that will be perpendicular to the sea.
The 20 acre location was given approval on Wednesday by the Atlantic City planning board. It still needs to acquire an environmental permit from the state. The first part of the project will feature a single tower with 1,800 to 1,900 rooms. It will improve to 3,800-3,900 room when the second tower is constructed.
The casino will have 150,000 square feet of casino space and 500,000 square feet of dining, merchandise and entertainment area. Revel is partnered with Morgan Stanley in constructing the brand new casino, which is also expected to build the first casino wedding chapel in Atlantic City.
Aside from Revel and Pinnacle, MGM Mirage also plans to construct a $5 billion casino in the marina area of Atlantic City next to the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. The president of the Casino Association Joe Corbo said that the Revel casino is a good development for the casino industry for Atlantic City and it will generate a lot of jobs and tax revenues for the state.
