EC Approves the Online Gambling Proposal of Denmark

Denmark’s online gambling proposal which was pending for long, has finally been approved by the European Commission. There were some complaints against the proposal which were ruled out by EC. Danish slot machine and Danish land casino were opposing the proposal saying that, 45% to 71% taxes on gaming revenue were paid. Casino operators, who are licensed, pay 20% tax of gross gaming. This according to the opponents is against the rules of State Aid.

The Danish gambling proposal will come into effect from 1st January, 2012. The initial licenses will be operational from this date. These include licenses on sportsbetting, both online and offline. The second set of licenses will be provided for backgammon, slots, roulette, blackjack and poker.

The recent ruling has initiated positive responses across the industry. With regard to legalization of gambling operations, Betfair has always been on news. Martin Cruddace, the officer of regulatory and legal affairs commented that the gambling regulation will benefit operators working internationally, the Denmark government and players.

The Betsson Group also expressed its views on the recent gambling regulations. Denmark’s country manager, Richardt Funch said that efforts will now be made to market all casino brands under the new regulation.

Betsafe League will be the new name of Danish premier league. The sponsorship agreements with the organization need to be implemented. Remote Gambling Association also expressed its satisfaction with regard to the new EC ruling.
