Macau's Casino Gaming Industry Profit Improvement

On October 18th, 2007, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau Macau’s casino gaming profit for the 3rd quarter of the year improved 46 percent to MOP20.34 billion($2.55 billion) from MOP 13.95 billion from the previous year.

Combined with the MOP37.97 billion profits the Gaming Inspection stated for the 1st six months of the year, the 3rd quarter result brings Macau’s total casino gaming profit for the 9 months of the year ended September 30th to MOP58.32 billion.

That is 47 percent better than the MOP39.70 billion achieved for the same time last year. The Bureau did not explicitly stated on the figures it released on their Internet site but gambling analysts commented that they expected the casinos total win from the wagers made by the high-rollers helped pushed the casino gaming profits in Macau, the only area in China where casino gaming is allowed.

Analysts and Casino industry officials said that high-rollers are players who usually spend at least half a million patacas (or an equivalent of $62,620) in casino wagering on each visit to Macau. Analysts commented that the opening of brand new casino facilities in Macau had lured in more players to the Chinese territory increasing casino profits.

The Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s $2.4 billion Venetian casino resort facility in Cotai, which debuts in August, is among the three casino facilities that were launched in the past nine months of this year.

The amount of casino tables improved to 3,992 by the end of September from 2,762 casino table games. Macau cut the four decade monopoly of gambling mogul Stanley Ho of the casino industry after Macau reverted back to Mainland China rule in 1999.
